The story so far ...
Catherine A.D.'s music is unified by a distinctive voice that METRO compared to 'a lake of black honey'. Writing her songs on a host of traditional and junk-shop instruments, this is folk-noir, with a nod to glass-breaking diva Diamanda Galas and Nick Cave - songs to the lover, loser, and the fighter in us all.
It's been an eventful year for Catherine: Currently one of the Emerging Artists in Residence at the Southbank Centre, she was invited to play at the grand re-opening of the Royal Festival Hall in June 2007, subsequently being invited by Mercury Award nominee and Nitin Sawhney to collaborate on his forthcoming album "London Undersound" (alongside such luminaries as Paul McCartney & Imogen Heap).
Courtney Love then invited Catherine to play with her after hearing her "gorgeous sick beautiful voice"; her demo "Grow Out" was then picked up by BBC6 Music and won the listeners vote for best new track on Tom Robinson's "Introducing" show.
In the midst of all this excitement, CAD has established herself as something of a one-woman cottage industry, writing, recording, and producing twenty songs as a series of intimate home-recordings behind the curtains in a flat on London's Edgware Road.
These hand-made, hand-crafted EPs went on to be one of Rough Trade's best selling limited edition releases of the year with the folks at the Daily Mirror praising "these beautifully and individually packaged homemade art pieces…that warrant the fancy paper, pressed flowers, ribbon and bows".
Her live shows are intense excursion into heartbreak, with recent guest appearances at the ICA's folk club night, Roots & Shoots, supporting Scout Niblett on her recent UK tour, and appearing with Martha Wainwright at the Queen Elizabeth Hall for International Women's Day.
Catherine is currently recording tracks for her debut album.
